If you've ever taken an Arabic class, you may have heard of "Al Kitaab"
The word means “the book” in Arabic — and it refers to الكتاب في تعلم العربية – A textbook for learning Arabic. When Abbas Al-Tonsi, Kristen Brustad (his former student), and Mahmoud Al-Batal wrote the first edition in the early 90s, they had no idea their material would attain such recognition on a global scale. Two editions later, Abbas Al-Tonsi chats with us from his office in Cairo about the origins of “Al-Kitaab,” Khaled and Maha, the “orange book,” changes in subsequent editions of Al-Kitaab, and his upcoming book for heritage learners.

Hi Shannon,
thanks for this video. I just ordered Book one “Alif Baa” with 2 DVD. Hasn’t arrived yet. Did you started with Alif Baa too?
I’m currently trying to learn the alphabet. It very hard 🙄 Don’t know if I will master it by myself.
You can be proud of yourself what you achieved in Arabic Language 🥇
Greetings from Germany

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your comment! Glad you liked the video. I started with a different book for my first Arabic class but I think it was similar to Alif Baa. The institute where I studied printed the book pages for me so I can’t even remember what it was/who published it. But after that we used Al Kitaab.
Good luck!
